NEI TIL NATO. JA TIL FRED
En rekke amerikanske fredsorganisasjoner samles 6. og 7. juli til et mot-toppmøte (counter-summit) i Washington, helgen før NATO skal feire seg selv og sitt 75 års jubileum.
Det er mange grunner til at fredsbevegelsen er for alliansefrihet og mot NATO.
-NATOs militære løsninger på konflikt gir oss ikke sikkerhet i en tid hvor verden står ovenfor klima og miljøkriser, økende gap mellom rike og fattige og 12 100 atombomber. Tvert i mot bidrar den militaristiske tilnærmingen til å forverre våre felles utfordringer, som er avhengig av globalt samarbeid.
-NATO intervenerer i områder langt utenfor territoriet til sine medlemsland. Dette har ført til destabilisering av flere land og områder.
-I følge NATO er opprusting og militarisme løsningen på de fleste problemer og kriser verden står ovenfor
-NATO-landene brukte tilsammen 1341 milliarder dollar på militære utgifter i 2023 (14 000 milliarder kroner). Dette er 55 prosent av det globale militære forbruket. NATO-landene brukte således mer enn de neste 161 landene til sammen.
-NATO-landene står for rundt 60 prosent av verdens våpeneksport. Eksporten går også til land i væpnet konflikt, land med autoritært styre og land som skårer lavt på utvikling.
–FNs ordinære budsjett for 2023 var på 3,4 milliarder dollar. Dette er 0, 25 prosent av NATO-landenes samlede militære forbruk.
-NATO undergraver FNs arbeid for nedrustning og fred.
